Last Saturday, I had a birthday lunch to attend with the ladies in Tagaytay City at Marcia Adams Restaurant. All the light sweaters that I own are drab colors of brown, gray and black. I just realized that I didn't have colored sweaters.

For those of you who know me, I just love colorful stuff. When I dress in black, I color my nails in bright colors, or maybe a bright colored lipstick.

I decided to wear a black and gray knitted sweater that day, black latex leggings, gold shoes and a really dark purple purse, actually I don't know the exact color but for your reference, it's the LV Amarante color. That being said, I felt like Miss Autumn. I had dull colors on and I wanted pops of color to brighten my drab outfit.

That's when I remembered the unused BYS neon eyeshadow palette in my stash together with the blue liquid liner. A gift from a friend who thought of me when she came across the palette in SM. (Aww... Thanks Dessie!)

Bobbi Brown Cosmetics gave me a beautiful palette and it was "to-go" indeed! I was in a hurry one time to leave the house because I had shoots the whole day and an event in the evening. I just shoved the box in my bag and went out the door!

When I opened the box, it was such a delight! I was able to make a smokey eye with the palette! LOVE IT! So, thank you Bobbi Brown Cosmetics!

A friend of mine gave me a bunch of Fashion 21 stick eyeshadow/liner (P85.00 each) to try and do a how-to. I had a shoot today, and while I was putting my makeup on before I left, I recorded myself using the sticks for the how-to, and I will write the review after I got home tonight so I could test the makeup if it really stuck.

First, let me tell you about the product.

The packaging is nice. The pen is mechanical so you can screw the body of the pen to hide the tip and cover it so it wouldn't make a mess in your makeup kit incase the cap comes off. That is a plus for me.

Now comes the testing of the product:


The packaging looks promising. Of course, I am again judging the product by it's packaging (Hahaha!) but let's see later after I have worn it as soon as I leave the house until I get home tonight.

I am one of those beauty junkies who have to get their hands on something as soon as a new item hits the shelves.

I was walking passed the ELF makeup counter at SM, promising myself that I was there only to buy nail polish remover. But I came across their Flawless Eyeshadow quads. Since they didn't have testers, I HAD to get one to try. Since most of my palettes are mostly nudes, browns, and golds. I decided to try a little bit bold to review about and do a how-to video on.

The packaging I would say is very attractive. I love that the eyeshadow colors are bold and it rather looked highly pigmented. So, I got the Sea Escape quad which consists of blues and silvers.

I did a how-to video on this quad and I must say. I was very disappointed with the texture of the eyeshadow. It was very chalky, and pigment was very low. You could have finished the entire pan of eyeshadow and still, you wouldn't have achieved the color you are aiming for.

The product falls off or "disappears" after a while and you will have to keep retouching if you were to get this product.

Maybe I just got the wrong color. I will try a different color tomorrow and see if there will be a difference! So verdict says? 2/5.

At Chanel’s Fall 2011 Runway show, liquid-y metallic eyeshadow was seen on model’s created by Chanel’s director of makeup, Peter Philips. He created a silky, silver eye that was just extremely sophisticated and elegant.

I have women sending me emails asking me about metallic eyeshadow and I figured that there’s no better time to write about it than now when most runways are sporting metallic shadow.

I don’t know why the camera registered my eyeshadow to be blue, but I promise you that the shades I used are honest to goodness silver eyeshadow.

I did a silvery, dark and dramatic look like from the Vera Wang Fall 2011 Show. I used Shawill’s Glitter Gorgeous Eyeshadow (P128/single shadow) in 05 (highlight), 11 (base), and 12 (definition and contour). These shadows are more metallic and pearlized than it is glittered so don’t be fooled by its name.

Allow me to tell you a little something about this eyeshadow. This actually is my secret weapon when I am doing fashion shoots. These products are so pigmented that it registers so well on camera. But for photography makeup, be careful where you place metallic products for they may throw the overall effect of the lighting on the face. Too much can make you look too greasy.

This eyeshadow lasts longer than I expect it to be. I tested it myself and it lasted the whole day without retouch. They have lots more fun colors too so give it a try. If you will use metallic (remember, metallic is different from glitter) during the day, I recommend applying only at the lash lines up to the center of your lid. Going up all the way to your crease will make you reflect too much light during the day making your eyes look smaller than they actually are.

All shades come from the same Glitter Gorgeous Eyeshadow line which Is very pigmented so you don’t have to use a whole lot.

Start by applying the base shadow (11, silver) on your lids from your upper lash lines going a little past over your crease. If you want a more intense color, dampen brush and dip in shadow. Pat your brush on your lids like you are pressing the product on your lids rather than doing that wiper motion with your brush.

Next, use the highlight to blend the edges of your base by applying product on your brow bones blending the edges of your base well blending the 2 shades together in this area.

Define your creases by dipping a dry brush on your definition powder (12) and tapping excess. Start from the outer corner of your eye working your way toward the center, but make sure not to do the wiper motion again. When you get to the center of your eye, start again at the outer corner so that most product will be deposited at the outer corners and then fading towards the inner corner of the eye.

Use your favorite eyeliner pencil in black to define your lash lines and blend your definition eyeshadow on top of it to give a smokey effect. The thicker the liner, the more dramatic your eye makeup look will be. Curl your lashes and apply 2 coats of mascara.

I found that using all shiny products can be a little over done if you are not on the runway, so use a metallic eyeshadow base and using a matte highlighter and definition powder.

If you don’t want to use black, you can use other colors like purple or blue as your definition and still use your silver as a base.

Keep your foundation, blush, and lip color matte so that you will keep the focus on your eyes. Any shinier and you’ll be sporting the disco-ball look!

I love smokey eyes. One of the best things about doing the smokey eye is that you can really make your eye bigger and the white part of the eyes whiter, hence making your eyes brighter.

Doing the smokey eye is easier than it actually looks. Don’t be intimidated by makeup application terms like contour or inverted V-shape. All you have to have on hand is a good cream eyeshadow, the same color of powder shadow as your cream shadow, a great mascara and black eye liner.

When it comes to cream eyeshadows (budget wise), I love using ELF’s Duo Eye Shadow Cream. With it only costing P129.75 a pot, I got all 6 duo shades that they had. One of my favorites is the shade Berry Mix. This is the shade that I used to create this smokey eye look.

One of the main problems in using cream shadows is that after wearing it for a while, it has the tendency to crease. So use an eye shadow primer like ELF’s eye lid primer, Urban Decay’s Primer Potion, or whatever product works for you.

I love using shimmer shadow when doing the smokey eye because it’s not dated like matte shadow. This type of matte look is so 80’s so I like using shimmer. Plus, it looks more glam and chic… Not to mention, very sexy when your lids have a little bit of shine to it.

After applying and setting your primer, apply the darker shade of the duo from lash line to your crease (just below your brow bone) with your ring finger. I like using my ring finger when blending eye shadow because this finger applies the least pressure. Don’t put too much pressure when tugging and pulling your eye area skin because this skin is very thin, this can cause premature wrinkling.

After you have applied your base color, blend an eye shadow powder the same color as your cream on top of it and don’t forget to blend the edges with a clean brush. Apply the lighter shade on your brow bones to make them pop up giving your eyes appear more deep set. You don’t have to apply a powder shadow of the same shade on this area because there won’t be a reason for it to crease.

I like applying a dark brown or black shadow on the outer part of my eyes to make my eyes look wide-eyed. Line your lash lines with a black eyeliner making the line on your upper lash lines thicker so that you can smudge it so that you will achieve that smokey look.

Curl your lashes well and apply 2 coats of mascara. I love using Maybelline’s Magnum Volum Express. The formula is really black and it dries rather quickly. After I curled and applied mascara on my lashes, I put false eye lashes on the outer part of my eyes only so that it will have a little bit of cat-eye look. Press your lashes and false eye lashes together so that they will blend together well. Apply a 3rd coating of mascara. Don’t neglect your lower lash lines! They have hairs to! By applying mascara on them, your eyes will look even bigger.

CONTOURING. There’s a word most women fear when I put makeup on them. They think that contouring will make them look mannequin-like, and it's completely understandable. Contouring is actually very helpful when done right. This technique is specially important for women with no creases like me. It will give your eyes depth.

Let me tell you about the importance of contouring when done the right way. It can shape your face, or make your nose more “matangos”.

For me, I love contouring the cheekbones and the eyes. Not necessarily on me but I love doing it on my brides as well. For me, it gives my eyes depth, and make my cheekbones higher, hence, making my face elongated as opposed to being round.

Makeup sure that when you’re putting on makeup, that you look 3D rather than just slapping on the makeup on your face. The makeup contours don’t have to be dark and obvious like what they do in the theaters, by using a half shade darker of the product you are going to use like a bronzer or a matte eyeshadow, will be as natural looking as creating a subtle shadow.

Use a contouring eyeshadow brush or cheek brush that is angled. It creates the most natural looking contours. This angled brush is my favorite for my personal use. I found this angled brush in Landmark, which they now sell a wide variety of good pro-quality brushes at reasonable prices.

This "Jenny" short-handled angled blending brush has natural hair and it's great for contouring the creases. And the best part? It only costs P167!

PS. You like the kissme bangs on my forehead? LOL

We’ve all seen photos of women with gorgeously smoky eyes, or perhaps a model with eyeliner so dark and deep, she looks perfect and unreal. Unfortunately finished photographs usually involve a little airbrushing and PhotoShop enhancements we can’t have for every snapshot of ourselves.

However with a little practice and the right tools, you can successfully achieve the alluring draw of dramatic eyes. Many women desire the look of dramatic eye makeup, but do not have the skills or the expertise to wear it well. With the tips below you can begin to explore this world of cosmetic intrigue, and hopefully obtain a look you will love.

Don't limit yourself with blacks, greys, and silvers. You can pull off the dramatic eye look with practically any color.

THE TOOLS

If you are going to try out a makeup look darker than you normally wear, there are a few products you will want to make sure you have:

• An eye pencil a shade darker than normal
• Black or dark purple/blue mascara
• Black liquid eye liner
• Eye makeup brushes in a variety of size
• Both light and dark colored eye shadow

After you have all of these supplies,you can begin to experiment and play around with different dramatic eye makeup looks.

GETTING THE LOOK

1. Start your look by coloring your eyebrows about a shade lighter than your natural hair color. If your eyebrows are exceptionally light, then you can take the time to practice adding a shade darker of eyebrow pencil, gel or powder to them perfectly and choosing eye shadow colors that compliment them. Eyebrow shape can make or break your beauty, so make sure your eyebrows are symmetrical and shaped with a natural-looking arch. WHAT I USE: Sally Hansen's Facial Hair Bleech. It's very easy to use and doesn't sting! Need to add color to your brows? I use Makeup Forever's Eyebrow Corrector Gel in #0 or #2.

2. Next, apply a light shade of eye shadow starting at your eyelash line and going up to the base of your eyebrow. Your color choice depends upon your complexion and eye color, however, a subtle gold/brown usually works well.

3. Following application of this light color, use a darker shade in a thin line and place it in the crease of your eye lid. This will help to “open up” your lids and make them look large, expressive, and dramatic. You can also use a medium shade on top of this dark color if you want to blend and add variety. Blend this mid-toned third shadow into your brow bone.

4. BLEND.

5. After you have completed your shadow, it’s time to use eye liner. This is unfortunately where many women go wrong. To prevent this from happening, start out small. It is easier to add product than it is to remove it. If you are a newbie, try using a gel eye liner with an eye liner brush. This is easier to control.

Place black eyeliner to your upper lashes first. Using a very thin line, apply from the inner corner outward. When you move on to the bottom lashes, be sure the two lines do not touch, as this will actually shrink your eyes and cause you to look cat-like rather than gorgeously dramatic. Complete your look with a couple of coats of dark mascara, and curl if desired. WHAT I USED: Bobbi Brown Long Wear Gel Eyeliner.

Dramatic eye makeup can be emphasized with fun additions like iridescent shadow or a pencil liner containing shimmer. However, usually dramatic eye makeup is commonly known for being black, mauve, browns. Painted, and precise.

WHERE TO WEAR

Dramatic eye makeup can enhance your look for a variety of occasions. Now that you have achieved your dramatic look, where should you wear it? Save it for fun evenings out, perhaps when you next go dancing at your favorite club or have an after-hours work soiree to attend.

The first thing I do after I buy new eyeshadow is drop it on the floor and shatter it into a million pieces. I am just clumsy that way.

How many times have you accidentally dropped your eyeshadow on the floor and been left with a mess? I use to carefully pick up each broken eyeshadow and put them back in their case and would carefully open it each time I use. Sometimes, this leaves a huge mess in my makeup kit!

I was surfing the internet until I browsed upon the site that taught women how to quick fix broken eyeshadow!

FOLLOW THESE STEPS:

If the shadow has a very soft texture, simply place all of the pieces into its original packaging. Place a kleenex over the top and gently press down using your index finger. After several small presses, your eyeshadow should be intact once again!

However, if your shadow is not soft enough for the above process, more severe measures must be taken.

You will need: a ziploc bag, rubbing alcohol, scissors, paperclip (or bobbypin), fabric, and a coin.

Using your paperclip, break the eyeshadow up and pour into a ziploc bag. Tilt the bag so all of the eyeshadow is concentrated in the corner of the bag. Smash the shadow until it becomes a fine powder (I used my chapstick). Clean and sanitize the original eyeshadow pan.

Place two drops of alcohol into pan using a medicine dropper. I found a nice dropper from Landmark and it helps me store a few ml of alcohol in it too in case I need to quick fix in a shoot.

Cut the corner of the ziploc back and pour half of the eyeshadow into the pan. Add a few more drops of alcohol and mix using your paperclip. Add the rest of the eyeshadow and the necessary amount of alcohol to form a thick smooth paste, like icing. Smooth it out the best that you can (doesn’t have to be perfect right now) and let the alcohol evaporate until it has almost completely hardened, about 30 mins. Take a coin that will cover the the entire eyeshadow pan (a quarter usually works) and wrap it in your fabric. You should choose a fabric with a pattern close to that of eyeshaows. Firmly press the coin into your eyeshadow. Make sure to press hard enough to pack in the eyeshadow, but not too hard so that the eyeshadow breaks and oozes out.

VOILA!! Your eyeshadow makeup is now like brand new! Well... Sorta ;P

In a few months, it'll be summer! I love the summer (and spring too!) because this is the time of the year to wear lovely pastel shadows and bright lipsticks!

If some of you haven't noticed yet, I love applying green eyeshadow on fair skin. On the other hand, this shade looks good on morenas as well! On the photo I attached, I did the makeup for my cousin's friend Lorrie while her sister took photos (they look pro! hahaha!). We did the make over at her house in time for her school graduation photo that day, so we had to do her makeup early in the morning.

My client, Lorrie, had fair skin. She is used to wearing the basic nudes and browns, and I just thought that doing a fresh look on her grad photos would look best. She was a bit skeptic at first but I assured her that if she didn't like it, we could always change it. Meanwhile, 1 year later... She still does this look for work, gimmicks, and the mall sometimes when she's in the mood!

Keep your foundation light. If you can get away by wearing just tinted moisturizer, do so! This is the perfect time to be wearing it since heavier foundations are reserved for cooler days. Slightly powder your face to set it.

Make your blush bright and blushing. Show your summer glow by using bronzers and blushes that are rich in color! Of course, balancing applies when you wear this look. Avoid making everything look heavy. Assess what feature you would like to emphasize that day.

Wear something vibrant this summer! Don't be afraid to experiment at the cosmetic counters because that's what they're there for! Just remember to load up on mascara because pastels can washout your lashes.
