In the Shadows by Hard Candy

I am so excited to show you what I got in the mail today from the US. I ordered this about a week and a half ago and it finally arrived! (YAY!)

I was able to get Hard Candy's 5 eyeshadow palette called REBEL which I saw in a beauty blog a while back and I just wanted to try it out for myself. The palette comes with a small trial size tube of Hard Candy's eyelid primer so it was like getting 2 products for $7.00!

For those of you who missed my previous blog post about me traveling to Vietnam, I recently went on a vacation to Ho Chi Minh (Saigon) last week with my husband, my sister and her husband. The four of us headed out to the sunny city for the first time.

I tell you, from now on, the following products I am about to show you are my travel survival products for a fuss-free and happy trip!

Perfect Lips with Nature Republic

There's nothing less attractive than dry, flaky, lifeless lips. I make it a point to at least exfoliate my lips with a sugar lip scrub (home made) and slather on tons of petroleum jelly before going to bed. These tricks make your smackers the perfect canvas for lipsticks.

Making your own home made beauty remedies can be tiring (and 'fun-less'), or sometimes I go weeks without exfoliating my lips at least twice a week. It sooner becomes a chore... Until I recently discovered Nature Republic's lip care products.

Vietnam-Ready Nails

Leaving for sunny Vietnam today for vacay and I just can't wait!

Summer is just around the corner and I am really excited to whip out my summer nail colors, starting now! At my birthday party last month, my friend Naisa gave me a set of nail polishes from China Glaze. They were all gorgeous, but it was this one that I got really excited about. It's sunshine in a bottle! (Thanks Naisaaaaa!)

In the photo it looks like a neon flat yellow shade but actually up close, it has some type of glaze (sort of pearlized). It's slightly holographic, in some light it seems like apple green. It's just gorgeous!

Let it SNOE, Let it SNOE, Let it SNOE...

#spotlight

There are three crucial characteristics I consider that qualify as great cosmetics:

  1. Packaging (yes, this is number 1)
  2. Quality
  3. Smell
I have known about Snoe Cosmetics (snow-ee) for a while now. I saw their booth at a beauty fair in Glorietta one time and I just loved their attractive, vintage inspired packaging. I have been buying their special black bleaching beauty bar (PhP 139.00) ever since that day, and my husband has been an avid user of their Argan oil (to make his hair thicker -it works! PhP 799.00).

Last week, Snoe sent me a package of their cosmetics to try and let me tell you... Their stuff works wonders (I am not being paid for this review, and I always tell the truth about cosmetics).

Coat Me Good!

I love lipsticks that stay. There are a lot of smudge proof lipsticks out there but there's no harm in getting extra insurance.

My friend Kat Dy, Managing Editor of BDJBox.com and owner of online brand Martina-Martina, gave me a a bottle of Lipcote to try and it was just amazing! Lasting lipstick power indeed!

Fuss-Free Fabulous Nails

I was at Landmark shopping for unnecessary beauty stuff with one of my closest friends Carla a few days ago. And as we were about to pay, she asked me about nail foils/nail stickers that you frequently see in department stores and polish brands. I told her that a couple of months ago, I bought myself a box of Sally Hansen's Salon Effects Real Nail Polish Strips to try but didn't like it since I didn't do it right (coz it came out all wrinkly). She did however, still bought some (another brand) for herself to try since they were cheap anyway.

I regretted not buying some for myself as soon as I got home because I couldn't stop thinking about them. So, after my meeting in Greenbelt 5 yesterday with a client, I popped by Landmark to buy several designs from several different brands so I can give them another try. And I am so glad I did! (Carla, this is for you! ♥)

(Crediting FashionOxygen for the photo style. They did a B&W version of this, loved it, so I pegged it!♥ -this photo of me was taken by my hubby.)

"Maybe She's Born With It... Nah, It's Definitely Maybelline!"

I got a loot bag from Maybelline yesterday (Don't you just love unexpected packages arriving at your doorstep?). They sent me a whole bunch of beautiful makeup but I decided to use these colors for my Valentine's dinner date last night with my hubby.

I have been so curious about their eyeshadows ever since they first came out but never got the chance to get one since I was already swimming with makeup (hubby thinks I should already have a sale... No Way! LOL).

Happy Hearts Day From Pond's! (Product Feature and Giveaway)

I woke up yesterday with a surprise package from Pond's. They have sent me a Valentine's Day gift and I was just ecstatic!

Seeing their red paper bag got me all excited about what was in store for me this V-day. One thing I love about Pond's is that their packaging is just so sexy and sensual .. well, aside from their fab products that can make your skin look IN-CREDIBLE.

Have A 'Sparkling' Summer Ahead!

*For my nails in this photo, I used a plain white polish as primary color. Topped with #7 (let it dry), and layered it with #2, both from first set.

This summer, add some glitter to your nails! Summer is not just about wearing pastels or neons on your nails. Adding glitter will make your nails look even more fun on the beach!

I promised myself to post a new blog entry once a day in the morning. But I had to rush this post before this nail polish set gets sold out at Forever 21. After a long day of shooting today, I passed by SM Makati to buy a BB Cream (which I will feature very soon). After an hour of cosmetic kiosk hopping, I finally chose the perfect cream and paid for my stuff (emphasis on the stuff... I ended up not buying only BB Cream).

Good thing I decided to pass by Forever 21's cosmetic area (my favorite part of the whole store), and discovered their newly displayed nail polish sets.

Clean Your Brushes The Professional Way (Product Feature and Giveaway!)

As I've mentioned in one of my previous blogs, I am pretty anal about cleaning my brushes. I am pretty choosy with brush cleaners so it took a while until my brushes and I have found our destiny. I have a couple of brush cleaners that I loved, and this is one of the top 5.

My good friend Angelo Falconi III, professional makeup artist and L'Oreal Professionnel Ambassador, sent me his newly developed brush cleaner a couple of months ago (I know, I know... Backlog... Sorry Angelo!) to try and I was just amazed of its effectiveness!

Color Me Neon

Last Saturday, I had a birthday lunch to attend with the ladies in Tagaytay City at Marcia Adams Restaurant. All the light sweaters that I own are drab colors of brown, gray and black. I just realized that I didn't have colored sweaters.

For those of you who know me, I just love colorful stuff. When I dress in black, I color my nails in bright colors, or maybe a bright colored lipstick.

I decided to wear a black and gray knitted sweater that day, black latex leggings, gold shoes and a really dark purple purse, actually I don't know the exact color but for your reference, it's the LV Amarante color. That being said, I felt like Miss Autumn. I had dull colors on and I wanted pops of color to brighten my drab outfit.

That's when I remembered the unused BYS neon eyeshadow palette in my stash together with the blue liquid liner. A gift from a friend who thought of me when she came across the palette in SM. (Aww... Thanks Dessie!)

Absolutely 'CHARM'-ed.

As a makeup artist, I am pretty OC when it comes to the makeup brushes I use for my clients. Top quality brushes from MAC, Shu Uemura, Bobbi Brown, etc. They are kept upright in a MAC brush tumbler so the brushes won't have creases and remain perfectly round at the edges, stored in a cool dry place, shampooed and dried under the sun on a drying rack twice a week, and thoroughly cleaned with an anti-bacterial brush cleaner ever night, after each use.

As for my own personal brushes though, I never really cared which ones I get my hands on. When I travel, I bring with me travel sized brushes (that are waaaay too short handled that you're like "what the...?!") that you can buy cheap at the department stores that are stored in those little plastic bags the size of a credit card holder. I would then buy other short handled brushes but are very stiff and some are annoyingly soft. Most of these generic, mass-produced brushes don't come in actual travel bags so I just make do.

Call Me Paranoid... But You Should Be Too!

I have always loved going to the nail salon having my nails pampered either for just a cleaning, a foot spa, or have my nail color changed when I am in urgent need of spoiling myself. But ever since my friend told me a few years back (maybe 3 years ago) about what she read in the internet about how that lady in the US contracted that some kind of fungus from having her nails cleaned in a nail salon, I literally turned green and wanted to faint.

Some would say I am too anal about my nails or that I am being too paranoid (and someone even used the word 'un-trusting'?), but I really want to be safe than sorry later on. Sometimes it can't be avoided that you get wounds during a cleaning when the technician "digs" too deep the cuticles and hangnails, and what if the tools were un-clean? What happens then?

I now present to you my Top Secret, 007 stuff that I bring with me every time I want to have my nails done. Hahaha! Just kidding about the top secret stuff. I have had this kit for the past 3 years and I don't have a plan to stop using it!

Never Again!

Have you heard of the saying, "There is a sucker born every minute."?

I never believed it would happen to me because I have always been so smart in buying makeup, until now.

I had a meeting today at Robinson's Galleria. The word from the grapevine was that they had a good PX Store at the basement that sell reasonably priced perfumes and other cosmetics. I forgot the name of the store, but anyway, after my meeting -I headed out in search of this store.

True enough, there it was. I loved that the store had all perfumes known to man in their quaint little store. I bought myself a bottle of Clinique Happy (with a sticker that still had the $ Price tag on it). While I was waiting for my turn to pay at the cashier, the old woman behind the counter showed me their small selection of "original makeup" that were consigned by a flight attendant who would travel to Europe on a regular basis.

There was only one brand I recognized, and it was L'Oreal.

Yah yah, I know... I should have known better. But the sales lady guaranteed it's authenticity and that it was their best seller. I checked the back of the packaging and said that the product was made in France.

Some Champagne? Caviar... Nails?

I know that this Ciate Caviar Manicure was such a big thing last year, but it didn't interest me that much until recently. I have always been curious about how they did it, and when I saw a YouTube video on how to use Ciate's "supposed" patented Caviar nails, I wanted to get my hands on one.

Since it's not so easy to get one here in Manila, I decided to look on Ebay USA because, 1. They have more choices, and 2. I have packages coming in from New York every 2 weeks anyway. As soon as I typed in "Ciate Caviar Manicure" on the search bar, literally hundreds of them popped up in results. I couldn't believe that they cost that much! Come on, $25.00 -and some much more (PhP 1,025), per color and those bead things? I mean, I would gladly pay that amount (and more) for Chanel Nail Lacquer, but not for such a novelty/fad product. Although I must admit, their colors are fantastic!

The Latest Makeup Brand To Get Addicted To!

I was on my way home today from a fashion shoot when I suddenly remembered that I needed eyebrow powder for my own personal use. I used to love Fanny Serrano's eyebrow powder quad, I mean I still do, but I found that it's such a waste that I only use one color from the quad. So I was on a mission to find a single shadow that can be used as an eyebrow powder.

I promised myself that I was going to buy only this one product and a small eyebrow brush, and go home without buying anything else. I was cruising the aisles and that's when I came across this new brand in SM Makati that just opened. I kept telling myself to check it out and just look for that one brow powder, and that they did!

Cosmetics at the P88 Store

My husband and I were window shopping in Trinoma yesterday. We were going to have dinner with friends there but had time to go around the mall for a stroll (?). For some reason, I ended up in True Value looking for a new dog leash for my baby Mylo when I saw that a Japanese home store was connected at the back.

This store, I swear, is heaven. Everything at 88 bucks (around $2). I was so engrossed browsing the aisles and before I knew it, hubby was already calling me to tell me that they were already waiting for me at the restaurant. I suddenly remembered that I still haven't done my makeup (thinking I can always do my makeup at the ladies' lounge). And what do you know... I forgot my makeup kit at home.

There is a silver lining though, I get to test the makeup that they had at Saizen! LOL Another excuse to shop. I would have gone to the cosmetics department at Landmark but I just didn't have the time. The restaurant was on the opposite side of Landmark, and Saizen was just a few floors below the resto.

Look Chic in Seconds!

#hairstyling

Last Saturday, my cousin got married and it was sort-of a much anticipated wedding for the family since it's been a while since someone got married.

So... I had the dress, the shoes, the clutch, the jewelry. I had the perfect nail peg, and makeup was the least of my worries. The only thing was, I didn't know what I was going to do with my hair. Let me tell you now that I can't do my own hair to save my life. Either I just do a sleek ponytail, a basic chignon, or leave it down and curl it. But I couldn't do any of those because I had short hair now (for those of you who do not know why I had to cut my hair short, you can read about it here: My Ombre Faux Paz)

I have had so many brides who have extensions put on them when I do weddings, but I never really considered them before because again, I know I wouldn't be able to put them on myself anyway.

Gotta Love Pastels!

Spring/Summer is here!

Let me tell you about this Cuticle moisturizer by China Glaze. I usually use hand creams and other cuticle creams but this one I love. I love that it totally smells like berries and it leaves my hand looking like they're fresh from the nail salon because of the sheer red tint. It does leave my cuticles moisturized so I don't get that urge to use my teeth to pull on them! (Eeeew!)
